Their vibrant nature and beauty have earned them a place not only at home but offices, shopping malls, and the streets. Many people love growing cactus indoors because of the life and happiness they bring to every home. Maybe it’s from the feeling you get when these little green pals begin to thrive. You are instantly made to feel capable, and you start to think that maybe you are not a plant killer after all. That feeling that you get, reciprocated by the blooms, offshoots, new baby plants you see emerging from your plants, makes you feel like…a winner.
Cactus & Succulents bring peace, calm, and beauty to every home. The plants bloom in flamboyant flowers that also make good gifts, especially on special occasions like Christmas and Easter. Many cactus varieties last very long and thrive with very minimal care.
If you are looking for an unique plant, they make a great option especially if you are looking to add a bit of greenery, subtle beauty and an incredible visual experience, especially when they flower, for your living home, yard or office. In fact they have become so popular that, you can find succulents almost anywhere. I have seen them used as wedding centerpieces, seen them in cute little containers in coffee shops or stores, in small jewelries, and even in real books transformed as planters.
This is partly due because these simple plants can live just about anywhere, since they have low maintenance requirements. Cactus and succulents can survive many months of neglect and are highly tolerant to drought and other conditions that may threaten other plants. These plants are naturally made to store water for a long time, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t get a chance to water them for several weeks.
Cactus and Succulents are available in over 2000 species all over the world. This means you can never fail to find one that will suit your home garden. You can choose different sizes, shapes, and flower colors. You can start your collection of cacti and, in the process, discover the one that really suits you. Don’t worry if you have to go through a trial and error process.
While there's a difference between cacti and succulents, they're very closely related. "Cactus" denotes a botanical family.
Succulents are a broader group referring to a type of plant included in several botanical families. While all cacti are considered to be succulents, there are succulents that are not cacti. Despite their close relationship there are major difference between cacti and succulents. They are:
Aloe Vera was my first succulent plant. Back then, I knew nothing about succulents. I took the plant home and repotted it, put it in outside in full sun and overwatered it. In spite of all my shortcomings, it thrived.
They have thick, fleshy, green to bluish-grey-green leaves. Some varieties have whites flecks on the stem surfaces. They spread by producing clusters of offshoots. The dwarf species are very suitable as indoor plants in pots. These plants are great beginner or starter plant because they are easy to care for and are low maintenance plants.
Zebra plant (also known as Haworthia fasciata) look exceptionally beautiful in unusual containers making them perfect for any indoor spaces!.
They are delicately small spiky succulent, growing about to 5 - 8 inches tall. They have thick, dark green leaves with bumps of white tubercles on the outer surface, and are clustered together giving it a “Zebra” effect.
Plus, Zebra plants don’t need much effort when it comes to watering, as then can still survive even without one for many weeks.
The Jade plant is commonly believed to bring good luck, financial success, and friendship in households where it grows.
The Jade Plant is of the most popular succulents. Its beauty comes from the thick, oval shaped, broad green leaves and woody stems. A slow grower of about 2 inches per year they can reach 3 to 6 feet tall.
Note: If you have pets you need to careful about where you place your jade plant in your home. All parts of the plant are toxic to cats and dogs.
Echeveria is another popular succulent that does well indoors with direct light. They are often used in succulent gardens, floral arrangements, terrariums, and even wedding cakes. Their stunning rosette shape and plump leaves, give them a striking resemblance to flowers.
Echeveria doesn't need much water, therefore only water when the soil dries completely. It will do well in a clay pot with good drainage

The plant is particularly attractive with its lone spherical stems and flowers of reddish-purple in hues of red-purple. It can grow up to approximately 4 in. tall and 8in. wide.
Their looks, ease in care and flowering habits, make these one of the most popular and around.
Commonly called the bunny ear cactus, (Opuntia microdasys) is a popular plant that is attractive and low-maintenance.
It usual grows new segments in pairs looking like bunny ears. Plus, it has pretty flowers which start growing buds in early spring, and then flowering in early summer.
